"Seek opportunities for pulling active ground floor uses 'around the corner' at Mainstreet intersections, especially at Pikes Peak Drive." That line is Recommendation 3.4 in the Town of Parker's Mainstreet Master Plan. Of all the side streets that meet Mainstreet, Pikes Peak Drive is the only one it names.
This fall, that recommendation started showing up on the street. One short stretch of S. Pikes Peak Drive now has a cantina with two stages, a food-truck yard holding its grand opening this Friday, a diner with an event hall in its basement, and a whiskey bar being built at the Mainstreet corner. Each one fills a different hour of the day. Together they make this block an evening out of its own, separate from Mainstreet rather than an overflow lot for it.
What the plan asked for, and why this corner
The master plan's land use chapter describes "active uses" as boutique shops, bakeries, cafes and restaurants that "invite window shopping and lingering, and add motion and vitality to the downtown streetscape." Its other recommendations point the same way. Recommendation 3.2 encourages "cafes, art galleries, music stores and unique shops." Recommendation 3.3 is labeled aspirational and suggests "an artisan/'makers' market in Old Town."
Between mid-August and early October, two new businesses opened on the same block, and a third is under construction at its corner.
Four addresses within a short walk
| Address | Place | What it is | When it's running |
|---|---|---|---|
| 11160 S Pikes Peak Dr | JP Cocina & Cantina | Mexican restaurant and cantina in the former Wild Goose Saloon | Opened August 2026; daily, from 10 a.m. |
| 11023 S Pikes Peak Dr | The Gathering Yard | Food-truck and vendor yard | Friday through Sunday since Oct. 1 |
| 11020 S Pikes Peak Dr | Rory's Diner | Breakfast and lunch diner | Established |
| Corner of S. Pikes Peak Dr and Pikes Peak Ave, basement level | Pikes Peak Event Center | Event hall with stage and full bar | Public events most months |
The table makes the point. These places don't compete for the same hour. One serves breakfast, one runs late, one is open on weekends and one hosts a calendar of evening events. That kind of all-day activity is what Recommendation 3.4 was asking for.
The old saloon kept its stage and added a second
The biggest of the new arrivals is in a building many Parker locals already know. DougCo Social reported that JP Cocina & Cantina soft-opened in the old Wild Goose Saloon on Monday, August 17, and cut its ribbon on Wednesday, August 19, with a mariachi band and confetti cannons. The outlet places it "on the stretch between Mainstreet and Hilltop, by Best Buy."
The owner, Jose Poblano, is the JP on the sign, and Chef Fernando Ortiz runs the kitchen. This is Poblano's third Parker business and his largest. According to the same report, he started with a food truck on March 18, 2021. That truck became El Poblano Mexican Eats, now a truck and covered outdoor stand at 11321 Dransfeldt Rd. He also runs The Perfect Time Cafe at 10471 S Parker Road.
DougCo Social's opening-day menu notes give a sense of the prices. Street tacos start at $4, the Street Corn is $7, ribeye tacos with roasted bone marrow are $23, and a seafood soup with shrimp, octopus, crab legs and fish tops the menu at $24. Margaritas run $11 to $13 on the house list and $18 on the "Upscale" list. The same menu runs all day, and there's a $10 kids menu.
The building's history matters for what comes next. The Wild Goose stage stayed, and a "Wild Goose Saloon" sign is still painted on a wall. Out back is a turf beer garden with whiskey-barrel tables, fire-pit tables, string lights and a second stage facing it. At opening, the restaurant had live music, karaoke, bingo, country nights, Noche Latina and comedy on its planned list, with the kitchen and bar coming first.
The JP Cocina website now advertises "Live Music — Two Stages" and lists hours of 10 a.m. to midnight every day. DougCo Social's directory listing gives later closing times Thursday through Saturday and still describes the programming as not yet running. Check the restaurant's own channels before planning a late night or a show around it.
A yard behind the building, opening tomorrow
The cantina covers late morning through late night. On weekends, The Gathering Yard adds something else to the block. DougCo Social reported that the community food-truck and vendor yard at 11023 S. Pikes Peak Dr. announced its soft opening on Oct. 1 and has been open Friday, Saturday and Sunday while it builds out its lineup.
The official kickoff is tomorrow: the Grand Opening + Fall Festival on Friday, Oct. 30, from 5 to 8 p.m., with food trucks and local vendors. The yard hasn't announced specific vendors for the night.
The trucks rotate, and the yard posts its lineup week by week. Its plan-your-visit page listed Las Cuñadas and Smore's Time on Friday, Oct. 16, and The Tiny Oven on Saturday, Oct. 17. The yard sits behind the main building on the lot, so follow the signs. It's family-friendly, needs no reservation, and visitors can bring a chair or blanket to stay a while.
This is the closest the block has come to the plan's aspirational makers market. The Gathering Yard welcomes local vendors and small businesses as well as food trucks. After a free trial period that ended Oct. 21, its posted vendor rate is $50 a day or $100 for a Friday-to-Sunday weekend. Vendor inquiries go through thegatheringyardparker.com.
Upstairs diner, basement stage
The newcomers joined a block that already had an anchor. Rory's Diner lists its address as 11020 S Pikes Peak Dr. One floor down, at the corner of S. Pikes Peak Drive and Pikes Peak Avenue, is Pikes Peak Event Center, formerly Deep Space Parker Lounge & Event Center. According to DougCo Social's listing, it has more than 7,500 square feet of column-free event space with a stage, a large full-service bar, and The Speakeasy, a 530-square-foot lounge for up to 49 people.
The diner and the event hall share an owner, and that connection is what makes the basement events work. The venue's public calendar includes stand-up comedy with Hold Please Productions, murder-mystery dinners, karaoke, and a monthly series called A Night with the Coroner. Former Douglas County Coroner Lora Thomas started the series in 2011 to explain death investigation to the public. Doors open at 5 p.m. for dinner and drinks, the presentation starts at 7 p.m., and seating is first come, first served. Admission is $20 cash at the door, and all of it goes to the Second Wind Fund, which works on teen mental health and suicide prevention. DougCo Social reports the series has written the fund a $13,500 check.
On those nights, Rory's sends food downstairs. At the September 23 talk, DougCo Social found a limited menu of cheese curds, a chicken Cobb, a club sandwich, a diner burger, fish and chips, onion rings and a buttermilk fried chicken sandwich, priced from $4 to $15.25. After the Wednesday, October 21 talk, the next scheduled Night with the Coroner is Wednesday, December 9. The venue is wheelchair accessible. Enter from the front of the building and take the stairs or the elevator down one level.
The corner piece still under construction
The most visible spot on the block isn't open yet. SuBourbon on Main, a whiskey bar and restaurant, is under construction in the former Chamber building where Mainstreet meets Pikes Peak Drive, listed at 19590 Mainstreet, Suite 101. DougCo Social reported this month that construction delays may push its opening to around the new year, and no firm date has been announced.
When it opens, SuBourbon will sit right at the turn the master plan described, joining Mainstreet's foot traffic to the block behind it.
Parking once the snow starts
The Gathering Yard points visitors to street parking or one of Parker's public lots, then a short walk over. The Town's downtown public parking map has the details, and the rules shift as November arrives:
- Town-owned public parking downtown is free, though some spaces have time limits.
- On-street parking has a two-hour limit Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- During snow events, on-street parking isn't allowed on Mainstreet, Pikes Peak Drive or Pikes Peak Avenue.
The third rule is the one that matters most for a December 9 Coroner night or a snowy Friday at the yard. On a snow day, park in a public lot and walk to the block.
